What about the GOALS?

Unfortunately, unlike the turf one, the grass field we have arranged to play on does not come with the goals, but we found the softer surface and more space on grass more important. The solution is to purchase own goals, and after some research, I found a couple of options:

SAMBA soccer goals by Net World Sports

EDIT 2014: Now they are called FORZA

They come in two flavors (Club, and more rigid Match) and various sizes (for us most relevant might be 8×6, 12×6, or 16×7 feet in size — where the official size is 24×8).

Here is more about the sizes as represented by The Football Association:

The size of goal used should be appropriate for the age of the players. The laws of the game stipulate the full size of the goal, which is 7.32 by 2.44 metres. However, we allow modifications to the width and height of the goal for players under 16, for women, veterans and players with disabilities. The following table shows the size of goal considered appropriate for the age ranges given, in line with our rules. The numbers of players may also vary with their ages.

11-a-side (or as appropriate):
Under 15 to adult => 24′ x 8′
Under 11 to under 14 => 21′ x 7′

Mini-soccer
Under 10 => 12′ x 6′
Under 11 to under 14 => 16′ x 7′

5-a-side
Senior => 16′ x 4′
Junior => 12′ x 4′
Mini => 8′ x 4′

Club version of 8×6 costs $165 a-piece, 12×6 is $195, and Match 16×7 is $295.

What do you guys think?

  1. I did a bit more research today; also went to the fields we play on and measured the goals that are there. Here is what I found out:

    1. Our turf field has aluminum goals made by FOLD-A-GOAL. They measure 12′ x 6’6″, are marketed for both indoor and outdoor use, and currently cost $635 a-pair, nets not included;

    2. On the grass field I took a closer look at the SAMBA goals. I have noticed they were made in the UK by SAMBA SPORTS. This particular model measured 10′ x 7′ which was the size I could not find on the maker website. But by comparing, 12′ feels like a better width, and 16 would not be bad either, especially on the larger field with more players (16′ x 7′ is FA recommended size for 9 vs. 9 soccer). At the same time 8′ feels small. As for the height, I like 7′ better than 6′ which feels low.

    3. KWIK GOALS. I saw them on two locations in the size 21′ x 7′ and as such, they come with a price tag of $1,250 a-piece. I do not think we are there yet…

  2. Stong work Blazej!
    good outing, although i was pretty sore!!
    -see you in two weeks. chris

    • Oh boy how sore was I (still am)! I run on Saturday for 30 min (first time in four weeks following my injury) and then went biking with Amelka for another 1.5 hrs; and then had a little run with Wolf on Sunday morning just before the game… But I feel great and my arm is really much better. Have a great vacation and see you soon!
